According to the US Postal Service, a five-day letter mail delivery schedule would save about $2 billion a year.
Eliminating Saturday letter delivery will help the US Postal service reduce their costs and conserve resources. However, by continuing Saturday package delivery, businesses will still be able to have products delivered to consumers on Saturdays.
Reducing Saturday letter delivery is in line with mail services in several other industrialized countries like Australia, Canada and Sweden, which deliver mail five days a week.
Since some lawmakers believe Congressional approval is required for any changes to the Postal Service's mail delivery schedule, following up on this petition will necessitate the Obama administration to work with Congress.
