We need to make democracy a number one priority. For far too long voters have been turned away from the polls and votes tallied in secret on voting machines where the voter can only hope it was accurate. Accounts of voting machine "mistakes" are numerous.
We must return to a transparent election system, with small precincts and 100% hand marked, hand counted paper ballots (counted in the precinct). Make election day a holiday, so that there will be plenty of people to work the polls and easily vote.
We also need to mandate that all primaries and caucuses are open, the closed primary and caucus system has been abused for too long.
We must also have automatic voter registration for all citizens 18 and older. We have a right to vote and know that our votes will be counted accurately.
