Students in school during 1998, who had outstanding student loans, are not eligible for current loan forgiveness.
For example; I was in my junior year (1998-1999) and took out a subsidized student loan. After joining the military, the loan was repaid, except for the interest ($5000). I later attended graduate school and received more loans.
I worked in a high need academic area, which has a loan forgiveness incentive. Nevertheless, because I had outstanding loans while pursuing my undergraduate degree, I was not eligible for forgiveness.
There is definitely a gap in this loan forgiveness initiative.
Please help me bring this to our legislative and executive branches' attention.
Thanks
