By using a two-fold approach of a)requiring ALL gun sales (including gun shows and personal sales) to have criminal and mental health background checks, and b)requiring all guns to have smart gun technology that only allows the gun owner to fire the gun, the chances that a criminal or violently mentally ill person can fire a gun are greatly reduced. Had this policy been in place already, both the Newtown and New York firefighter shootings would've been impossible. We believe that this policy makes our nation safer without harming law abiding gun owners.
A mental health database for gun sales was made after the VA Tech shooting, but most states don't enter data: we are saying they should do so. Smart gun tech should be on all new guns, and old guns should have to have it installed.
