In their effort to balance the budget on the backs of retired service persons and their families, the Department of Defense has been planning to downgrade health care benefits for US military veterans for some time now. The change occurs in a few months and the DoD has not made an official announcement warning them yet.
The DoD removing veterans from the successful Tricare Prime and dumping them into Tricare Standard. The change will require veterans, many on fixed incomes to pay much more out of pocket costs - if they have the money to pay for it at all. The cost of a hospital visit will jump from 'covered minus $25.00' to 25% plus up to 15% of non-covered charges and that is after meeting an annual deductible.
