The Electoral College system, which was first approved in 1787, runs the risk of no longer representing the will of the American people. There was a time that the system was useful, when people had to travel long distances to vote and populations were differently distributed, but those times have passed, as has the need for the Electoral College.
Looking back to presidential race in 2000, between Al Gore and George W. Bush, we can see that it is possible for a candidate to lose the popular vote and still win the election.
Repealing the system not only would ensure that the will of the majority is represented, but it would also ensure that third party candidates, who never receive any electoral votes, have a stronger chance when they run for office.
