Abandon fossil fuels as a source of energy, and switch to nuclear power.

Created by J.M. on March 16, 2013

The United States' energy infrastructure is decades behind those of many other first-world countries. A mere 19% of American electricity is produced by nuclear power. The United States is almost totally dependent upon fossil fuels. Part of America's reason for shunning nuclear energy is due to the abandonment of nuclear energy projects by the federal government in the '70s. Perhaps at that time nuclear energy could be considered unsafe, inefficient, and costly, however, the rest of the world has advanced in the technology since then, and nuclear energy is now essentially as safe as older sources, such as fossil fuels, albeit less easy to handle, but much more efficient. Furthermore, nuclear energy is cleaner than burning hydrocarbons, and thus safer to human welfare.
