It is unacceptable for the Federal Government to "farm out" the education of our children- neither directly or effectively- to the highest bidder.
The Race to the Top competition mandates the adoption of the Common Core State Standards, high-stakes testing, and teacher evaluations tied to the test scores, in exchange for education funding from the Obama administration.
The "standards" were written by corporate leaders and representatives of the testing companies, not K-12 teachers. They are a largely incomprehensible and developmentally inappropriate series of requirements. High-stakes standardized testing causes schools to "teach to the test." and subjects other than math and English are minimized.
