Having an age requirement to vote is an example of ageism. There are some people under the age of 18 who are more qualified than those over 18.
A political/citizenship test requirement is more fair, as it is objective and does not make baseless assumptions about one's capacity to understand the issues facing our country.
Not only is the current system prejudiced, it ensures that issues important to younger voters are unfairly ignored.
