Abolish BMI testing in the public school systems.

Created by M.C. on February 14, 2014

Most schools have initiated BMI (Body mass index) testing for our children. Some states have made this required for all schools in their state.

BMI testing is very inaccurate. There are too many variations and the currently formula of testing is misleading. While obesity is a very real problem in our country, the current testing for obesity is doing more harm than good. The focus should be on maintaining a healthy lifestyle, not dictating that kids are overweight and obese and making them feel bad about themselves. There are too many young children developing eating disorders due to these ridiculous tests because they are being labeled as overweight or obese when they are not actually overweight.
