Resolved, abolish the artificial market-segmenting system of boutique gasoline.
Specially-blended gasoline is mandated in 34 states resulting in between 45 and 70 gasoline blends sold in micro-regions in the United States and artificially limiting supplies.
Gasoline prices are higher and competition is suppressed in areas where boutique fuels are mandated. Different blends CANNOT be sold across jurisdictional lines. Outages due to refinery maintenance, fires, weather or changing over to "Summer Blends" cause price spikes.
Boutique fuels deliver only marginal (if any) reductions in air pollution. Ethanol blends reduce available agricultural fields for people and animal food growth. Due to lower energy content, E10 (gasohol) and E85 produce a drop in miles per gallon of 3–4% / 25–30%.
