Capital Punishment takes up much of the state's revenues ($2.3 million in Texas per case an 3 times more than it would cost for life in prison) to execute criminals who might otherwise be considered "too dangerous to be kept in society".
Execution is the ultimate degradation of all human rights entitled as well as constitutional rights entitled to every US citizen.
It is a flawed system that puts innocent lives at risk as 140 innocent people have been released from Death Row since its establishment in 1973. 1 in 7 people executed is innocent.
It is a central pillar of our criminal justice system that it is better that many guilty people go free than that one innocent should suffer. Let us ensure that we are being just. Let us be certain we do not kill a single innocent person.
