Abolish Clauses in the Constitutions of Several States Which Prevent Atheists From Holding Public Office

Created by C.S. on January 30, 2013

There are clauses in seven states which violate Article VI of the U.S. Constitution which states that "no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under the United States." The states that are in direct violation are as follows: Arkansas, Maryland, North Carolina, Mississippi, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas. We ask the Obama administration to abolish those clauses.
