Electronic voting systems are a natural and expected step forward for integrating technology with the democratic process. Previous methods for vote counting have been fraught with obvious flaws making vote counting difficult or at least cumbersome. Technological measures could be used to simplify this process and provide voters with many useful improvements in accuracy and speed.
However, recently these services have been contracted out primarily to companies who choose not to allow 3rd-party oversight of their systems or security procedures. Reports of the ease with which these systems can be hacked have been met with dismissal, ridicule or ad hominem attacks.
Please require electronic voting systems be subject to a rigorous and OPEN system of tests and public scrutiny.
