Abolish Columbus Day As a Federal Holiday.

Created by K.M. on January 08, 2015

This is a petition to abolish Columbus Day as a federal holiday. It is pure disrespect to the Taino Indians to celebrate the man who murdered, raped, and enslaved their tribe. We are polluting the minds of youth by telling them stories about Columbus "the hero" when he was responsible for genocide. There is no celebration of Hitler or Stalin and there should not be one for Christopher Columbus. He was responsible for the massacre of thousands of natives (roughly one death every ten minutes), the largest genocide in registered history. Our country should stand with the natives and recognize the pain and suffering the Taino tribe endured. The story of Columbus is not one for celebration, but for reflection and respect for those who were mercilessly murdered those hundreds of years ago.
