Abolish Columbus Day as a national holiday and declare Election Day a national holiday instead.

Created by D.P. on October 03, 2014

Columbus Day celebrates an explorer who exploited and mistreated natives living in the western hemisphere. It has also ceased to have any relevant celebratory activities.

The right to vote and elect our own government officials is far more of a cause for celebration. Additionally, many citizens, primarily those of low income, find it challenging to make the time to vote Election Day due to job requirements. Declaring Election Day a national holiday will help remove those impediments for many.
