Christopher Columbus is a very controversial historical figure. Columbus, upon discovering the New World, sold the native peoples (Lucayans, Taínos and Arawaks) into slavery working in gold mines. Columbus also sold many native girls into sexual slavery. He casually wrote of this enterprise in his log : "A hundred castellanoes are as easily obtained for a woman as for a farm, and it is very general and there are plenty of dealers who go about looking for girls; those from nine to ten are now in demand."

For these, and MANY other reasons the signatories of this petition demand that Columbus Day be abolished, and replaced by Native Americans Day!
