Day Light savings time was first concieved by Benjamin Franklin in 1784, but was not instituted until WW1 in an effort to preserve resources. This may have been a good theory before the invention of air conditioning but in today's global economy and 24 hour services, the costs savings is not as beneficial as it may have been. In fact in 2006 Indiana instituted daylight savings time, researchers saw an increase in costs of $ 9 million dollars. Other studies have been done to offset this study, but the statistical data should be enough to say that the cost does not outweigh the benefits. Another factor to consider is the harm to sleep paterns of the work force and students and for this reason Day Light Saving Time should be done away with completely.
