Daylight savings time was designed to allow people to enjoy more sunlight after work and save on electrical energy usage on old-style incandescent light bulbs. In our modern world, our lights use far less electricity than air conditioners, computers, and electrical entertainment devices. The shift in time adds to sleep deprivation and scheduling conflicts between businesses in areas with differing times (or that start/end daylight savings times on different days or don't participate in it at all), causing many lost, unproductive job-hours. It currently makes no economic or environmental sense to undertake daylight savings time, and is, in fact, counterproductive to our society.
