Daylight savings time should be abolished because the reasons for its existence either no longer exist or never did. A NY Times Op-Ed on March 6, 2014 by Matthew Kotchen, professor of economics at Yale University (and who recently served as the deputy assistant secretary for environment and energy at the U.S. Department of the Treasury) states that there is no energy savings derived from the time change and that the recent evidence actually points to daylight savings time causing energy consumption to rise. I believe the disruption in daily routines, and circadian rhythms and negative health effects caused by daylight savings time and the apparent increased energy consumption are great reasons to end the program while there do not seem to be any good reasons to maintain it.
