DST, once suitable for an agrarian population, is no longer beneficial to the country. DST requires workers to be active and leave home during non-daylight hours, thus no energy savings are realized.
Transition into DST may have a disturbing effect on the rest-activity cycle. Studies show that there is an increase in both heart attacks and road accidents on the days after clocks are set forward one hour in the spring.
On the basis of a traffic analysis, it has been shown that the DST applied in summer months, causes a rise in evening traffic and creates an increase in fuel consumption and thus a higher pollution level in the atmosphere (Hecq, Borisov, Totte, 1993).
