Daylight savings time is an old idea, first used in the USA during WW1 (nearly 100 years ago). Even then, it was so unpopular that it was repealed one year later. It only started being used consistently in 1966.
Proponents say it saves energy, but there's no evidence to support that. In fact, when Indiana adopted DST statewide in 2006, they saw an overall increase in energy usage.
There are also numerous health and productivity issues associated with the disruption in sleep patterns caused by the time shift. One study links the time change to an increase in heart attacks, and many others show an increase in traffic accidents.
Even if we do find that there's a small savings in energy consumption, is the cost in lives and productivity worth it? It's time to end this archaic practice!
