"An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind."
As a government of the people, the actions of the United States government are effectively an extension of the actions of the people. Thus when the government kills a delinquent, the people are all killing him. It makes no sense to kill to atone for killing because the moral responsibility falls on the people. The people (us) are murderers just like the criminal on trial.
The death penalty tends to be very biased toward blacks and minorities. This is due to generational poverty, something we should work on fixing rather than on punishing.
This is a very barbaric, immature, and plebeian way to punish criminals who commit the heinous crime of murder. There are much more effective ways to punish a person rather than killing them.
