Abolishing the death penalty will save the country an enormous amount of money. Contrary to popular belief, it costs millions of dollars to even get someone on death row, even if the execution isn't carried out. The cost of someone with a life sentence (without parole) pales in comparison. Many people have been wrongfully executed for certain and 142 people have been exonerated since 1970. Had the death penalty been a more swift process, these 142 people would have died in vain. As slow as it is now, it should be slower, unmoving. Abolishing the death penalty would save innocent lives and save the country money.
