The U.S. is one of only a handful of modern countries that still practices capital punishment. The death penalty has never been proven to deter crime and is significantly more expensive than life imprisonment. It is easy to argue that the death penalty constitutes as cruel and unusual punishment, which is not something a tolerant society should endorse.
In the wake of the Troy Davis execution and the cloud of doubt surrounding his guilt, we ask President Obama and his administration to please consider repealing capital punishment once and for all. This is not a Democrats-versus-Republicans issue, this is a human rights issue.
