Capital punishment is a breach of the "cruel and unusual punishment" clause of the Eighth Amendment to the United States Constitution and should consequently be abolished. It causes unnecessary complications within the justice system, wasting valuable taxpayer money and clogging the court system with appeals. Furthermore, the death penalty creates the possibility for human misjudgment to end the life of an innocent human being.
The United States will be viewed much more favorably by the world if this outdated and barbaric practice is outlawed. The vast majority of developed nations have already done away with the execution of accused individuals.
We as a nation must distance ourselves from the inherently unjust "eye for an eye" ideology that capital punishment embodies.
