The U.S. is one of the few countries that still uses the death penalty to "deter" and "punish" criminals. It has been banned elsewhere both because of its inhumanity and because of its ineffectiveness in reducing crime. If for no other reason, the fact that innocent people have been mistakenly executed, this penalty must be made illegal nationwide.
