Abolish the Death Penalty in the United States.

The death penalty is a broken system that uses hundreds of millions of dollars a year. Abolishing the death penalty in all 50 states would mean life without parole for convicted criminals. The appeals process involved in the death penalty is a much longer process than any other case. Death row convicts require two lawyers instead of one and their cases take decades to complete. Abolition would save tax payers money. Many death penalty cases cost 3 to 5 times more than life without parole. We can and should stop pouring money into an expensive system that does not make us safer. The money saved could aid victims of violent crime and lessen the impact of government budget cuts.
