Since the death penalty was reinstated in 1976, 144 people have been released from death row in the United States. Officially, two persons have been posthumously pardoned after their executions, but according to the Death Penalty Information Center, the number of innocent people who have been executed is likely much higher.
The death penalty cannot be undone. Those innocents already executed will not miraculously come back to life if the death penalty is abolished. But we can prevent future miscarriages of justice if we act now.
Tell your friends, call your representatives in Congress, join an anti-capital punishment advocacy group, sign this petition. Make your voice heard! Tell our government that we don't want this arcane method of punishment to continue.
