There are many reasons to oppose the death penalty.
Some oppose it because they do not feel it is moral for the government to take a person's life.
Some oppose it because it is more costly to execute someone in the United States than it is to keep them in prison for their entire life.
Some oppose it because there so many residents of death row have been found to be factually innocent.
Some oppose it because the death penalty has been shown to be applied in an arbitrary manner, depending on legal counsel and geographic location.
Some oppose it because the race of both the alleged offender and the victim are often a large factor in determining whether the death penalty was applied.
