It should be clear to anyone paying attention that the federal monopoly over primary and secondary education has been a complete failure. We continue to spend more and more taxpayer money on "education," and yet test scores continue to fall. This is not surprising, considering that much of the funds now go to administration rather than to teachers and students.
If the government really cared about education, and about the future of this country's children they would renounce control over this essential institution. The only things government bureaucracy has brought about are fewer choices, lower quality and higher cost. Education should be funded, but subsidize it by giving scholarships directly to students, or give control back to the states. The DOE an unconstitutional failure.
