The Designated Hitter is a crime against the nature of baseball and America itself. At its most heinous, it separates players into separate classes and is a tool of fundamental disenfranchisement.
The DH is an impediment to professional mobility and meritocracy. For every burly past-their-prime-DH there is one fewer spot for struggling minor league ball players.
It is a luxurious benefit for the few at the expense of the many.
It denies managers the right to fully use their skills in strategic thinking and execution, and it robs fans of the tension and drama that those decisions bring to the game.
It teaches our children that their are special, protected classes that don't need to participate fully in order to gain unjust rewards.
Save baseball and America. Abolish the DH
