Double Jeopardy: The Double Jeopardy Clause encompasses four distinct prohibitions: subsequent prosecution after acquittal, subsequent prosecution after conviction, subsequent prosecution after certain mistrials, and ***multiple punishment in the same indictment***. Jeopardy "attaches" when the jury empaneled, the first witness is sworn, or a plea is accepted. After the courts render their verdict and I am sentenced (punishment) the state comes in and imposes a fine for my crime(Punishment). So for those keeping score that's once punished by the Judicial system and once by the Executive. ***multiple punishment in the same indictment***
