The Electoral College is the group of people who elect the President and Vice-President and there are 538 members divided amongst the states. Each electoral college member is nominated by the state legislatures. The President or Vice-President does not have to get the population majority to get elected by the electoral college. In the elections of 1876, 1888 and 2000 the candidate who received a majority in the electoral college but not of the popular vote was elected. All three of these Presidents are consistently ranked in the bottom twenty presidents by recent historians. The president is in charge of running the country we live in so why should other people choose who they are? If we started electing the president by popular demand this would make it so everybody’s vote will count.
