When we still allow for a comity to ignore the popular vote, we do not have a true democracy. We also do not have an actual vote. Voting matters, as do the voices of the represented. It is true our voices differ, but each has weight. This institution removes this weight, and mutes the voices of ‘we the people’. Other nations have moved beyond such systems, it’s time we follow in the steps of others so that we can strive to once again close this gap and become leaders.
