Four times in our nation's history, the people have selected a candidate for the office of President of the United States by popular vote who ultimately would lose the race due to the antiquated Electoral College system. The system was created in a time when it was feasibly impossible for everyone eligible to vote to get to vote and in the modern era, it is a relic. As of November 8, 2016, the Electoral College has a failure rate of 7%, which is unacceptable when the system is designed to elect the next leader of the free world. A system in which "the loser is the winner" is wholly undemocratic and antithetical to the high ideals of the founders and democracy as a whole.
