We the people ask the federal government to Call on Congress to act on an issue:

ABOLISH THE ELECTORAL COLLEGE

Created by J.G. on November 09, 2016

The process of presidential voting by Elector as described in Article II and the 12th Amendment of the Constitution, known as the Electoral College, was originally intended to compensate for an electorate that was widespread and lacked access to current information. It was believed that an indirect method of voting would act as a check on the decisions of an unqualified population.

In a modern society with constant access to information, public education for all, and geographic mobility, this voting system is obsolete. The Electoral College has outlasted its purpose and hinders democracy. It has created highly partisan and extremely long election seasons. We call for its abolition and the right to elect presidents by direct vote in order to protect the franchise of all citizens.
