The electoral college was created from the fact that ordinary Americans across a vast continent would lack sufficient information to choose directly & intelligently among leading presidential candidates, but that is no longer the case today where voters can learn about their candidates & thus should be trusted to choose their President. In this election, for the 5th time in U.S. history, we had a presidential candidate who won the popular vote by more the 200,000 votes, but yet lost the election as they didn't garner enough of the electoral votes. It's no surprise that this election has been characterized as one of the greatest 'upset' of our times. We pride ourselves regarding America as a democracy & it's time to be one by abolishing the electoral college, an outdated & flawed system.
