The Electoral College was originally created so that the votes could be easily counted without needing to count every single vote for the presidency and because the people in the Electoral College were more informed on people running. This was created for the 1700-2000.
We live in an age of computers. We even vote by computers, which can count all the votes of the entire country. We can ask get the info we need on candidates online. This is why we don't need the Electora College. 4 times In history, the person who wins the popular vote, wins the presidency. That is 9% of all presidencal elections!
