The Electoral College was originally founded because, in the 1700's, it was difficult to accurately educate every citizen who was eligible to vote, and it was necessary to have a group of more informed people to cast the final vote in light of the citizens' ignorance. However, in modern day, we have many ways to easily access information on the presidential candidates and their political opinions and policies, and it is no longer necessary to have a group of "more informed" people casting the final votes and causing the popular vote to be disregarded. The popular vote is a more accurate representation of who the people have elected to be president, and, thus, the Electoral College should be abolished.
