Abolish the Electoral College

Created by J.A. on August 13, 2014

The electoral college system may have made sense to our founding fathers, but so too did prohibiting the right of women to have a say in leadership, and calculating the value of slaves at three-fifths of a person. If These United States are to embrace the democratic form of government fully, we need to do away with this system which takes direct choice out of the voters' hands and places it in the hands of the electors. As we witnessed in the 2000 presidential election, a majority of the vote doesn't guarantee anything, and to have another occurrence of that incident would be senseless for either major party. By removing the electoral college and finally placing the power of the vote in the hands of the people, this great country can move one step closer to achieving a true democracy.
