Abolish the Electoral College

Created by J.R. on February 12, 2015

The Electoral College has been a part of American Democracy since 1776. However, since the advent of telecommunication, it is time to abolish the practice.

The Electoral College goes against the democratic ways of this nation in multiple ways. The biggest problem with the electoral college is that a candidate can become president with just under 22% of the popular vote by winning certain states.

Another problem with the Electoral College is that the vote of a citizen of Vermont is worth 10 times less than the vote of a citizen of California. Also, the electors who are sent by the state to cast the votes don't have to vote the way that the states citizens want them to.

The Electoral College should be replaced with Popular Vote, to ensure that everyones vote really does matter.
