The Electoral College is a severely outdated system that was created before modern technology that provided a more feasible means of tallying votes. With modern technology, we have access to real time data that allows for instantaneous tallying of votes as each precint reports and the electoral college is no longer required.
The Electoral College also alienates voters in some states (for example NY, Texas and California) that may want to vote for the less popular opinion in their state and makes them less likely to vote because they feel that thier vote doesn't matter.
