In 2000 the election for president between Al Gore and George Bush was lost by Gore despite having more votes. Once again we find ourselves in a similar position with Donald Trump. Donald Trump had less votes than Hillary Clinton but still won the Election by a significant margin. The electoral college just complicates the system and has no real purpose. The candidate with more votes should win. It is best for the United States government to totally abolish the electoral college and base the results of any election on the popular vote.
