Abolish the federal drinking age

Created by C.E. on September 27, 2011

It's pretty obvious to anyone between the ages of 16 and 21 that the drinking age is a joke. It doesn't stop young people from drinking, but it does force it to be done clandestinely, away from the eyes of responsible adults, and marijuana is more readily available anyway.

Why is a man of 18 trusted to vote and drive, and required to register for the draft, but unable to legally buy a beer anywhere in the country? It's time we brought our drinking ages in line with other Western countries. Congress should stop making highway grants to the states conditional on a minimum legal drinking age of 21 so that legislatures can set sane policies for their states.
