The Filibuster Rule in the Senate is only a rule they adopted and is nowhere mentioned in the Constitution. For that matter our founding fathers probably would have rejected it. The rule allows a minority of Senators to block any law. And that 40% of the Senators are often representing an even smaller minority of citizens due to the fact that each state gets two Senators regardless of their population. This rule has been blocking law after law in the Senate for the past few years. Originally the rule was used only sparingly, but in recent years it has been used and abused to the extent that it has kept our government in a hopeless deadlock right when there are so many important issues to be dealt with. The Senate must abolish the rule, or at least seriously modify it.
