Abolish the Filibuster

Abolish the Filibuster

Regardless of which party is in power, our government is now routinely obstructed by the minority party. To be clear: both sides do this when they are out of power, to the profound detriment of the nation.

The use of the filibuster means that any legislator can easily stop any vote he or she finds disagreeable because it requires 60% of the members to override a filibuster. This 60% is known as supermajority. The Founders of this nation debated and rejected the idea of requiring a supermajority to pass legislation.

Once rare, the filibuster has become commonplace. Virtually every vote of substance requires a supermajority of 60% for passage. As a result, nothing is getting done, and our nation is suffering because of it.
