Food stamps is a wasteful way for the government to transfer tax payers' money to the needy. It only benefits the big food retailers. Instead, the government should use its massive bargaining power to buy food and daily necessities in bulk. It can purchase the good for 50-80% off retail prices. Then the government should allow private companies to bid for distribution rights to set up store to allow people who are currently collecting food stamps to shop for the good via a credit system, in which the government will assign a certain number of credits to the current food stamp receivers. In this method, the government will reduce at least 50% of its budget allocated to food stamps.
