The current income tax system fails to address the millions of illegal immigrants/undocumented workers who get paid without any taxes being withheld. Those same people then claim no income and get on government programs for assistance, therefore draining the economy even more. Raise taxes on goods and services purchased, and it eliminates the failure of those persons to pay their share of taxes. This would actually allow people to lose less of their money to taxes due to the hundreds of millions of dollars gained in taxes from those "undocumented workers."
