Abolish the modern day equivalent of the debtor's prison

Created by N.P. on November 04, 2014

The IRS, as well, and almost more powerfully, the individual states, can without any due regard, seize bank accounts, property and assets if taxes are due. Myself, on the onset of the financial crisis of 2008 lost my job the very next day. Luckily, because I'm in I.T. and have guts, got another job two days later, but as an independent contractor. For years I battled just putting food on the table for my family of four, fell behind on my taxes, settled with the IRS with an offer of comprimise which cost me 10,000 dollars in legal fees, now the State of Il is on my case, an their legal/fair (?) tactics are even worse, my Dad grew up in the dirty 30's, at least back then they abolished the "debtors prison", I thought we achieved that? But no, with the current practises, we still have it
